About Indethnic
Indethnic is a D2C women's fashion brand celebrating India's handloom and artisan textile heritage. We bring together sarees, dresses, kurtas, and co-ord sets crafted from hand-woven fabrics, block prints, and time-honoured weaving traditions —made to be worn and reworn, not discarded.
We're based in Kolkata, West Bengal, and ship across India.
We source directly from weaving clusters and artisan communities across India — Mangalagiri, Maheshwari, Chanderi, Jamdani, Banarasi, and more. Every piece is chosen for its craft, not its trend cycle. Our edit is deliberately small and considered. You won't find everything here — just things worth keeping.
Currently we are online-only at indethnic.com. Follow us on Instagram for updates on any pop-ups or exhibitions.
Our Products
Our core collection includes:
- Sarees — our largest and most loved category, spanning handloom weaves and block prints
- Dresses — relaxed kaftans and A-line styles in print fabrics
- Kurtas — clean, structured cuts in handloom weaves
- Co-ord Sets — tailored 3-piece pant suits for office and events
- Bomber Jackets — a contemporary layering piece with an Indian craft sensibility
Our products range from approximately Rs. 2,500 to Rs.~10, 000. Pricing reflects the quality of the fabric, the craft technique involved, and fair payment to the weavers and artisans behind each piece.
We work with a wide range of Indian textile traditions, including Mangalagiri, Banarasi, Bandhani, Chanderi, Maheshwari, Jamdani, Leheriya, Gadwal, Kanjeevaram, Kalamkari, Bhagalpuri Silk, Bagru Block Print, and handloom cottons. Each product page specifies the craft and weaving origin.
Both. Sarees are the heart of our collection, but we also carry ready-to-wear dresses, kurtas, and co-ord sets — all made from the same craft fabrics.
Our pieces are tagged and curated for daily wear, office and work settings, weekends, simple events, and festive occasions. Each product listing indicates the occasion suitability.
We photograph our pieces in natural or soft studio light to represent the fabric and colour accurately. However, screen settings can vary. If you're unsure about a colour, feel free to write to us at customercare@indethnic.com before ordering.
Sarees
Many of our sarees include an attached blouse piece of approximately 0.8 meters. This is mentioned clearly in the product description. If a blouse piece is included, it is noted under product details.
Our sarees are approximately 5.5 meters in length and 1.1 meters in width, which is standard draping length for most styles. Exact measurements are listed on each product page.
Not at all. Most of our sarees are in fabrics like cotton, linen, mul mul, and chanderi — all of which are beginner-friendly and easy to drape. Heavier Banarasi or Kanjeevaram weaves may require a little more practice. We recommend asking your tailor to stitch a running fall on the saree before the first wear — it makes draping significantly easier.
We currently sell unstitched sarees only. Pre-stitching options are not available at this time.
Fold along the natural pleats and store in a cool, dry place. For silk and Banarasi weaves, wrap in a soft muslin cloth to protect the zari. Avoid plastic bags — fabric needs to breathe.
Sizing
Sarees are one-size by nature — the drape and length accommodate most body types. The blouse piece, where included, needs to be tailored to your measurements.
All our ready-to-wear pieces include a size chart on the product page with bust, waist, and hip measurements. We recommend measuring yourself before ordering and referring to the chart rather than assuming your usual size, as fits can vary by cut and fabric.
For relaxed and kaftan-fit pieces, size down if you prefer a cleaner silhouette or size up if you want a more relaxed drape. For tailored co-ord sets, we recommend sizing up if you are between sizes. When in doubt, email us at customercare@indethnic.com and we'll help you decide.
Fabric & Care
Our range includes 100% cotton, handloom cotton, mul mul, linen, silk-cotton blends, art silk, chanderi, tissue, organza, chiffon, Banarasi fabric, and Liva. Each product page specifies the exact fabric composition.
Care instructions vary by fabric:
- Cotton and handloom cotton — cold hand wash, do not machine wash or tumble dry, dry in shade
- Linen — gentle hand wash or machine wash on delicate cycle, lay flat to dry
- Silk, art silk, and Banarasi — dry clean recommended, or very gentle hand wash with mild detergent
- Chanderi and tissue — dry clean preferred, handle carefully as the weave is delicate
- Block print fabrics — cold hand wash separately for first few washes to prevent colour bleed
The specific wash care for each piece is always listed on the product page. When in doubt, dry clean is the safest option for any handloom or handcrafted piece.
Handcrafted and naturally-dyed fabrics may experience minor colour release in the first wash — this is normal and does not indicate poor quality. We recommend washing new pieces separately in cold water for the first one or two washes. Avoid soaking for long periods.
Yes. Most cottons and linens can be ironed on a medium heat. Silk and tissue weaves should be ironed on a low heat with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric. Avoid direct high heat on zari or block print areas.

Crafts & Artisans
Our pieces are sourced from weaving and artisan communities across India — including Karnataka (Mangalagiri), Madhya Pradesh (Maheshwari, Chanderi), Varanasi (Banarasi), West Bengal (Jamdani, Handloom), Rajasthan (Bandhani, Leheriya, Bagru Block Print), Andhra Pradesh (Gadwal, Kalamkari), and Tamil Nadu (Kanjeevaram), among others. Each product page specifies the weave origin.
Many of our pieces are handloom-woven or handcrafted — involving significant human skill and time at every stage. Some pieces use powerloom production where the craft technique (such as block printing or weave pattern) is still artisan-led. This is disclosed in the product details.
Yes. We work closely with weaver clusters and artisan cooperatives to source our fabrics. This allows us to ensure fair pricing, maintain quality, and support livelihoods in craft communities.
