What you are looking at
Bagru jaal on mauve. A collar that shows its lining. Cuffs worth noticing.
Violet Garden is a midi shirt dress in Bagru hand block printed cotton — a dense all-over jaal of vining stems, white lotus flowers, blue botanical details, and lighter pink secondary blooms on a mauve-orchid purple ground. The collar is a full shirt collar that opens to a V. When worn open, the contrast-lined inner face of the collar shows — a lighter, complementary print on the underside. The 3/4 sleeves gather slightly before a structured cuff band that also carries a contrast facing. Two design details. Both visible only when you look closely. Both deliberate.
- Shirt collar with contrast-lined inner face — visible when collar is worn open
- 3/4 sleeves with structured cuff + contrast cuff facing
- Dense all-over Bagru jaal floral in multi-colour on mauve-orchid cotton
- Relaxed A-line silhouette — falls from shoulder, no fitted waist
- Centre back box pleat for ease of movement
- Side seam pockets — confirmed
- Front button placket — self-fabric or tonal buttons
- Midi length — falls just below the knee
The mauve-orchid ground is versatile — it reads festive enough for a daytime event, and understated enough for a dressed-up daily wear. Pair with clear heel mules (as shown) for a polished look, or with tan kolhapuris for a more Indian-everyday feel. A small black crossbody or chain bag (as shown) keeps it clean. The print does the work. The collar detail rewards the look closer.
Fabric
100% Cotton — breathable, easy to wear all day. The Bagru block print uses multiple blocks — each colour (the blue stems, the white flowers, the pink secondary blooms) is applied separately, one block at a time. The jaal pattern is a dense, interlocking vine design that covers the full surface of the fabric.
Craft
Bagru Hand Block Print, Rajasthan. The Bagru jaal is one of the more complex block printing techniques — the dense, interlocking vine pattern requires precise repeat registration across multiple colour applications. Each block is hand-pressed by a craftsperson. The slight variation in print registration is the mark of the human hand.
The Collar & Cuff Detail
The inner face of the collar and the cuff facing are cut from a contrast print — a lighter or differently coloured version of the Bagru print. When the collar is worn open, this inner face becomes visible, creating a quiet layering effect. The cuff facing shows at the sleeve's end, connecting both details. Small design choices. Consistent execution.
Care
Hand wash cold. Wash separately first time — the multi-colour Bagru print may bleed slightly. Do not wring. Dry flat in shade. Iron on reverse on medium heat. Do not bleach.
